How To Make The Most Of A Rainy Day

From the average British perspective, April is thought of as the start of spring. March can be hot too and Easter Sunday in the past has felt like a summers day, though granted it fell rather early this year.
So far during 2018 however things seem to have changed. The rain isn’t stopping any time soon and it feels as though winter is lasting forever. Even if a sunny day does arrive, it is exactly that – just one sunny day and then back to rain.
Therefore, the despicable weather conditions create a perfect opportunity to think about how you can make the most of those rainy days. Days when drinking Cider in a beer garden is less appealing and getting outside isn’t going to happen, so those long overdue chores must be completed.
It’s not all doom and gloom when the sun fails to shine (though sometimes it feels that way) so here are a few tips on how to make the most of a rainy day.
No distractions
Sunshine brings distractions. Everybody’s moods are instantly lifted so work gets scrapped, everything can wait until tomorrow when the rain will probably have started again.
Friends will be asking whether you fancy a cheeky afternoon pint in the local beer garden or a walk in the park, both of which can eat up long periods of time. Time when you should be productive, but you can’t say no to the tempting offers.
Where sunshine brings interference to the sluggish tasks that need to be completed, rain provides the perfect excuse to get things done. You’ll find that you have more time on your hands as you’re stuck indoors and studies have proven that rain can make us more productive.
There is nothing else you can be doing so the pile on your desk of papers that needs to be sorted, the sock stash that needs pairing and the boxes in your bedroom that need organising are the only options. It may seem hard to stay motivated in the dreary weather but stick with it and you’ll feel better after.
Boosted spirits
Talking of feeling good, and it may seem wrong to associate a drizzly day with boosting your spirits, but if there’s one thing during bad weather that can, it’s getting things done.
There’s no satisfaction quite like the ticking off a list once things have been completed. Things that perhaps have been in the pipeline for so long, but you failed to find the time. Well, wet weather gives you that time to finish any loose ends and polish up unfinished work.
It’s always best to see the positives in any given situation so when the weather doesn’t impress you much, take advantage of being indoors sitting down and doing everything you’ve been leaving until tomorrow. You’ll find that it’s an uphill spiral and as you complete one thing, you become more motivated for the next.
Do it now, enjoy the sunshine later
Though sunshine links to productivity staying motivated in the rain will mean that you can reward yourself and enjoy time in the sun later. If you do it this way and think of an afternoon chilling under the rays as a treat to yourself, you won’t feel guilty because everything that you’ve been meaning to do for so long will have been done and no longer hanging over you.
Although, particularly this year, it may feel as though summer will never make an appearance due to the current climate, it will. At least for a week. So, hold onto that hope and use it to keep you driven to work through the gloomier days and thoroughly enjoy the heat when it arrives.
