The Strategy that Turns Dreams into Reality

Have you ever dreamt about something and hoped that it would come true? According to psychologists, this theory can help you make your dreams become a reality. According to a study, the average person daydreams approximately 30 minutes per day. While it’s normal to daydream about the things we have always wanted to achieve, but simply visualising it without taking action isn’t the key to getting to where you want to be.
Specialists have suggested that simply imagining what you would like to happen isn’t enough but taking the leap to put plans in place is turning that dream into a reality. This involves analysing what is currently happening in our everyday reality and finding the best way to overcome difficulties to reach our goals, which is scientifically known as ‘mental contrasting’.
Having this ability can help us both in our work life and personal life, by giving us the skills to problem solve, be driven and even learn to take some self-control. Gabriele Oettingen, a professor of psychology at New York University, claimed that the ‘Fantasy Realisation’ theory could be extremely destructive when it comes to reaching your goals. She claimed that positive thinking could hold you back from turning dreams into a reality. This is due to the fact that people may mistake their daydreams with reality; leading them to believe they had already achieved them, when in fact, it is simply all in the mind.
If you want to make your daydreams come true, remember the acronym ‘WOOP’:
‘Wish’
Envision the ‘Outcome’
Distinguish the ‘Obstacle’
Create a ‘Plan’
As well as this, you may also want to take the below tips into consideration:
1. Listen to your gut
Sometimes, we have that inner voice in our head that is telling us to do something to get out of a certain situation or make a change in our lives for the better. Many people rely on their intuition to make important decisions which can often work in their favour. That inner voice tends to derive from our intelligence and past experiences to help make those crucial decisions. Next time you have an inclination that you must do something, always listen to your gut to find that guidance.
2. Let criticism inspire you
One of the reasons why you may be holding back from making your dreams a reality is simply because you’re worried about the criticism you may face. Most successful people have had to listen to negative feedback and critique at some stage in their life and are often emotionally shaken by comments they have received. Although you may be worried about what may come your way, imagine what is likely to go well instead of wrong and let this power guide you to form a sense of self-confidence. If you find it hard to let go of the idea of being critiqued, imagine using this feedback as a form of motivation to become stronger and enhance your idea or skills.
3. Talk it into a reality
You may have an idea in your head but haven’t yet written it down in fear that it sounds ridiculous or not good enough. You may be fearful that every time you revert to the idea, you’ll become less and less convinced by it, to the point that you dismiss it completely. You have to let go of the frightened inner thoughts if you’re ever going to make something of your dreams, otherwise, you’ll never push yourself hard enough to achieve them.
Over time, you should find these simple steps useful in helping you turn your fantasies into a productive strategy, that will ultimately allow you to achieve success. If you start small, you’ll find that even the biggest challenges will seem in easy reach.
